Home Sweet Home

At the end of August I went to visit my family in my hometown, Oakhurst. My sister and I were deciding how to spend an afternoon when I discovered that she'd never done a nearby hike to Fresno Dome, which is a favorite of mine because it's a relatively easy hike with a pretty great view as the pay off. So we packed some sandwiches, hijacked my mom's jeep (she was out), left a note (so people would know where to start looking in case bears ate us), and drove up to the trailhead.

The hike itself is not very difficult and it only takes about 45 minutes to get to the top of the dome. Normally you can see for miles from the top, but it was really smokey the day we went so the view wasn't as awesome as usual.  We didn't see any other hikers the entire time so we had the entire mountain to ourselves.

  1. I think people severely underestimate the survival skills you learn growing up in the mountains constantly in fear of becoming bear food.
